About ContextFS
Building the memory layer that AI agents deserve.
Our Mission
AI agents are powerful, but they forget everything between sessions. ContextFS solves this fundamental limitation by providing a universal memory layer that persists context across conversations, devices, and time.
We believe AI assistants should remember your project architecture, coding patterns, past decisions, and accumulated knowledge - just like a human colleague would.ContextFS makes this possible with local-first storage, semantic search, and optional encrypted sync.
Meet the Founder
Matthew Long
Founder & Lead Developer
Independent researcher and software engineer based in Chicago. Matthew has spent years working at the intersection of AI systems and developer tools, focusing on how to make AI assistants more effective for real-world software development.
ContextFS was born from the frustration of repeatedly explaining the same project context to AI assistants. What started as a personal tool evolved into a full-featured memory system designed to give every developer the benefits of persistent AI context.
Research & Publications
ContextFS is informed by ongoing research into AI memory systems, semantic retrieval, and developer productivity. Our approach combines practical engineering with insights from the latest advances in vector databases, embedding models, and context management.
Our Values
Privacy First
Your data stays on your machine by default. Cloud sync is optional and end-to-end encrypted.
Developer Experience
Built by a developer, for developers. Every feature is designed with real workflows in mind.
Open Source
The core memory system is open source. Transparency and community contributions matter.
